On December 13 2024, the Climate-Connection Africa team visited the Belgium Embassy in Nairobi.
The ambassador Peter Maddens showed us around the compound of the greenest embassy in Nairobi and greenest Belgian embassy in the world. Our ambassador from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kenya, Henk Jan Bakker ,joined us and welcomed us again to Kenya! We saw the two-sided solar panel parking, their EV charging point, the large battery storage capacity charged with solar power, the used water filtration systems, a biodigester creating biogas from organic waste for cooking, a vertical vegetable and herb farming and so many other green elements they have implemented! Very impressive indeed, let’s hope more embassies and other international organisations will follow their example. Their next plan is to convert an armoured vehicle!
